Cindy Chu
Writer . Director . Producer
is a Taiwanese American writer from Queens, New York. Her literary talents shine in the realms of horror, suspense, and supernatural storytelling. Chu's fascination with the thrilling and macabre traces back to her childhood, where she formed a unique bond with her non-English-speaking mother through their shared experiences of watching horror classics like "Nightmare on Elm Street."
With a profound appreciation for the arts, Chu’s journey led her to the prestigious Actors Studio Drama School where she earned her MFA degree. However, the lack of authentic Asian American roles ultimately steered her towards a new path: writing. Her narratives often revolve around socially conscious themes, frequently featuring Asian American female protagonists who come from more humble backgrounds.
Chu was a CAPE New Writers Fellow, Blackmagic Collective Fellow, and an alum to Mentorship Matters, a year-long writers’ program where she was mentored by showrunner Angela Kang. Chu was a writers’ PA on the Amazon/Sony live-action series, "Silk: Spider Society", and currently a WPA for Apple/Sony's series, Star City.
She lives a "bougie on a budget" lifestyle, enjoys solo traveling and hiking, and resided in Italy, China, and Mexico.
